Using an Image Gallery on your hospital intranet
At HospitalPORTAL, we’re always finding ways to evolve by coming out with new features that improve user experience, one of which is the Intranet Images and Gallery component. An image gallery might not stand out to you as an important piece of the intranet, but it is the way it is used that makes it a valued addition.
The Intranet Image Gallery is a component in our hospital intranet system that allows a content admin to display a group of pictures. There are actually two ways to display these images. One is simply called “Gallery.” In this view, it displays on large picture and shows the other pictures as thumbnails below. In this option, the end user can click on a thumbnail to enlarge that picture. The second option is called “Slide Show.” This displays the pictures one by one, on a rotation.
This feature is more than just about displaying some pretty pictures. With a creative mind, you can think of many applications for this image component. I see it most often on the homepage where a slide show runs with graphics that refer to events or news about the hospital. It can be a very effective way to get across information like news and events with eye catching graphics. You can even provide a link to any individual picture so users can be taken to the event details or a newsletter by clicking on the picture.
You can also use the Image Gallery component as a virtual tour of a wing of the hospital. If there happens to be a new addition to the hospital, you can add an Image Gallery on the page and give users from around the hospital a tour without having to leave your seat. You can order pictures in any way you want so you can take the user from one end of the wing to the other with just a few clicks.
